Prosta suknia uszyta z przepięknego, błękitnego lnu o zróżnicowanym kolorze. Wykończona haftowanymi taśmami (dekolt, rękawy, dół). Zajęła bardzo dużo czasu, ale efekt jest chyba tego wart :)

Simple linen dress made from a beautiful light-blue linen. Finished with embroidered strips (neckline, cuffs, bottom). It took us much time to finish, but the result was worth that :)

Ta została uszyta w całości ręcznie, lnianą nicią. Materiał to piękny len typu dwuton, czyli na zmianę tkany fioletową i białą nicią. Haftowana przy dekolcie.

This dress is all hand-sewn with a linen thread. The fabric is two-colour linen (violet and white). Embroidered near the neckline.

Rubacha

W tym roku spędzamy Sylwestra "cywilnie", ale gdybyśmy zdecydowały się na imprezę w strojach, zapewne własnie to byłaby moja kreacja ;) Korzystając z odrobiny wolnego czasu chciałabym Wam pokazać kolejną rubachę, powstałą jeszcze przed tegorocznym Wolinem. Jest uszyta w całości ręcznie z cienkiego lnu w kolorze zgaszonego, pudrowego różu, wykończona lnem dwutonem (beż/czerwień) oraz cienkimi czerwonymi tasiemkami. Bardzo ją polubiłam i zapewne będzie mi towarzyszyć również w kolejnym sezonie :)

We don't celebrate this New Year Eve at historical party, but if we did, I'd choose this dress to put on - it is another eastern rubakha. It was sewn (all by hand) in July, but now I finally found some time to present it :) The fabric is thin, light pink linen. Finished with double color (red/beige) linen and red straps. I really like this dress, it's both comfortable and good-looking (I hope ;P), so I will wear it also in the next year :)

Rubakha

Rubakha, Sorochka or just Eastern Dress…

In early middle ages there was a division between under and upper clothes. Rubakha was considered as an undergarment, loose shirt. Mostly it was made of linen, but not always.

All Russians were wearing it, it was the basic piece of clothing. In upper social class underwear was made of bleached linen, whereas the lower social class was using unbleached linen. Sometimes it could be made of thin wool or even for the wealthy people of silk.

Rubakha in cut was tunik-shaped, wedges widened the shirt and were sewn in just under the arm. The sleeves were narrow and long, even longer than the arm, in case of cooler weather to pull them down for warmth. If not, they were put in proper place with brancelets of metal, glass, wood. Later, sleeves were finished with zarukavya – narrow cuffs, which were rather lavishly decorated. Another case when the sleeves were pulled down (because of decorative reasons) were some rituals, like the rusalka dance. They could also be used as some kind of pockets.

The shirt was usually very long to the foot, but could also be shorter (to the calf)

The opening was rahter round (sometimes quadrangular) with a slit in the middle of the chest (more rarely on the right/left side). It had no collar, the neckline was cut close to the neck, it could be smooth or gathered. The cut was fastened by button, fibula, cord.

Very interesting thing is that in women graves were not found metal buckles. On the one hand it could be interpret that the shit was not belted. But on the other hand it was considered indecent to wear rubakha without belt. The interesting example can be Ivan the Terrible, who seeing that the daughter-in-law was wearing shirt beltless, killed his son (who wanted only defend his wife). I think the explanation of the absence of buckles in the graves can be that women were wearing woolen belts. They should be belted to block evil spirits, it was taken from pagan beliefs. That’s why people were decorating all of the openings with some embrionery, lacy, stripes of fabric.

Suknia "prawie z Pskowa" / "almost Pskov" dress :)

Od dawna przymierzałam się do uszycia tej sukni. W końcu trafiłam na piękny len, do tego wakacje... i gotowa:)

I was wondering about sewing this dress for a long time. Finally, I bought a beautiful linen... and here it is :)

Krój jest klasyczny, czyli posiada dwa trójkątne kliny po bokach i kliny pod pachami - nie zachował się żaden fragment, uznałam więc, że nie będę tu kombinować.

Cutting is common-known: triangular gussets at the sides and squares under the sleeves. We don't have any fragment of dress itself (only finish fragments).

Czym się różni od oryginału?
- był uszyty z niebieskiego lnu
- wykończenia były z purpurowego jedwabiu

 - mankiety były uszyte w całości z jednego rodzaju materiału - ja dodałam wełnianą taśmę na styku z rękawem
- podejrzewam, że rękawy były zwężane na całej długości - zaś zdecydowałam się na mankiety w wymiarach oryginału, a reszta rękawa jest nieco szersza
- domniemana dolna taśma sukni ma szerokość 4,5 cm - u mnie jest podwójna i sporo szersza.

What are the differences with the oryginal Pskov dress?
- it was sewn with blue linen
- finish was sewn with a purple silk
- cuffs were made from only one type of fabric - I decided to put also the woolen straps
- I think that sleeves were narrow at their all length - in my dress only cuffs are narrow
- hem of the dress was 4,5 cm - my is double and wider

Jednak w przypadku dekoltu na szczęście mamy zachowany cały fragment ( o którym już pisałam). Tasiemka przy dekolcie była uszyta chyba (z tego, co widziałam na zdjęciu) z tego samego lnu, co reszta sukni. U mnie zaś jest ona w kolorze ciemnego brązu, takiego samego, jak reszta wykończeń.

Hovewer, in case of of the collar we have the fragment well-preserved. The difference is that the collar was sewn with the same blue linen as the rest of the dress (at least, it seems to be like this).
